For the adoption of soil health management systems to become widespread and sustained, local technical assistance and mentorship is needed to guide producers over the multiple hurdles that come with implementing no-till/strip till, cover crops, and adaptive nutrient management successfully and profitably. ISAP is seeking applications for facilitators to establish and support peer networks across Illinois, to bring farmers together to troubleshoot issues and learn from one another, while building a local network they can rely on for years to come.
The Network Facilitators’ main responsibilities will be to:
- Convene in-person meetings four times a year
- Encourage ongoing informal communications within the network
- Provide guidance
- Bring in regional experts as needed
Ideally, these networks would include cooperators from the S.T.A.R. and Precision Conservation Management programs. Workload for facilitators is estimated at 20 hours per month, year-round.
