Small Grains Conference 2020
This year a regional small grains conference will be held in Springfield, IL on March 4-5 organized by Practical Farmers of Iowa and a committee of IL organizations. This conference will not only include sessions on the benefits of adding a year or years of small grains and forages into a corn and soybean rotation, but also practical how-to’s geared towards getting these practices on the ground.
One track of agronomy sessions will focus on small grain, forage crop and cover crop practices, one track of livestock sessions will explore feeding those grains, forages and cover crops to livestock and finally, the third track will address different marketing options for small grain crops.
Farmers identify lack of profitable markets as their number one barrier to practicing extended rotations, so the conference will also feature a “buyers and sellers” reception that connects farmers with small grains buyers. Sessions will explore both organic and conventional cropping systems that incorporate extended crop rotations and will have something to offer for operations of any size.
If you plan on attending don’t forget to register today! The deadline to register for the conference is February 28.
Additionally, the deadline for reserving a hotel room at the Wyndham City Centre at the group rate is tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12. Here is the link to reserve a hotel room.
