Carbon by Indigo is a comprehensive carbon offsetting program, grouping together farmers across the US and connecting them with carbon revenues based on their carbon reduction and removal performance.

Additionality Requirement

Yes. At least one eligible, new practice must be adopted, and the field must be enrolled prior to the harvest of the cash crop related to the initial practice change.

Price

$30 per credit to farmers in last carbon issuance. Average year 1 payment per acre variable based on location, soil type, practices adopted, and other unique factors.

Designed to stack with both, but other incentives cannot include payments for carbon credits or related assets.

Enrollment Assistance

Enrollment is performed through a partner or via Indigo’s software platform, and personalized support is available to assist growers.

Agronomic/Technical Assistance

Digital agronomic and profitability decision tools, agronomic support for practice change decisions and customer support for the software and program. Also offer free sustainable farming learning resources learning resources through video and content, including Carbon College. Additional agronomic assistance is available through partners, depending on how the farmer has enrolled.

Outcome Estimation

Indigo sustainability programs are powered by a proprietary measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) engine, which allows the company to measure and quantify outcomes across millions of geographic, crop, input, and agronomic practice combinations.

Verification

Data validation using software logic, remote sensing, and expert review. Random site visits and evidence checks by an independent verification body following the Climate Action Reserve’s Soil Enrichment Protocol.

Penalty for Temporary Break in Practice Implementation

Payments are based on actual performance. Without continued practice implementation credit generation will cease.
