Food Systems Development Internship

The Food Systems Development Internship offers hands-on experience with a leading farm advocacy organization dedicated to strengthening local food systems. Interns will play a key role in promoting and coordinating volunteers, supporting digital communications through newsletters and social media, and assisting with the annual update of the local food directory to connect farmers, businesses, and consumers. Responsibilities also include maintaining and enhancing online resource materials, contributing to event planning and execution, and helping advance outreach strategies that support farmers and local food initiatives. This position provides valuable insight into nonprofit advocacy, communications, and community engagement while making a meaningful impact on the resilience of regional food systems.

Extension Educator, Agriculture and Agribusiness (Horticulture)

Extension Educators will be expected to deliver research-based educational programs and to work within team settings that may consist of other Extension Educators, community professionals, and faculty within and outside of the College of ACES. The establishment of professional networks as well as the development of relationships with key stakeholder groups is vital to the success of Extension Educators. Extension Educators will be expected to deliver educational programs not only within their assigned multi-county unit, but as requested, to clientele within other units.

The Extension Educator, Agriculture and Agribusiness, is expected to concentrate programmatically in Horticulture. This programmatic concentration includes the development and delivery of high-impact and relevant educational programs and materials, and is required in the following areas: 1) production and protection of plants in urban and suburban ornamental landscapes, 2) fruit and vegetable production and protection, including organic and IPM plant protection systems. Strong leadership and delivery of programs will be provided to volunteers within the Master Gardener Program.

One full time position is available.
Location: Unit 6 – Cook County
(Position will be housed in Des Plaines, IL)

Precision Conservation Specialist

Precision Conservation Management (PCM) is a farmer service program led by the Illinois Corn Growers Association in partnership of over 30 other conservation leaders. The mission of PCM is to facilitate greater adoption of conservation practices on corn, soybean, and wheat fields by investigating the impacts of conservation practice adoption on farm financial stability.

The Precision Conservation Specialist will provide technical assistance to enrolled cooperators in the Precision Conservation Management program. The Precision Conservation Specialist will work in conjunction with the program partner PepsiCo and Frito Lay to educate cooperators about conservation practices and connect farmers to exclusive incentive programs and cost-share opportunities. This person will be responsible for helping farmers within an approximately 90-mile radius centered in Sidney, IL to secure financial and technical assistance to adopt conservation practices and/or expand their use of conservation practices. PCM Specialists also have reporting responsibilities to PCM partners demonstrating success in expending grant funding/cost share-dollars provided by the partners. Additional expectations assisting program partners is required from time to time. PCM Specialists present participating farmers with customized reports summarizing the sustainability and financial impacts of their current farming operation and generating environmental and financial comparisons with other farming practices.
