SUMMARY:Endangered Species Act Grower Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Endangered Species Act\, passed decades ago\, aims to protect our nation’s endangered and threatened species. Recently\, advocacy by environmental groups\, enabled by this legislation\, has driven changes to the environmental policy that will impact Illinois farmers’ access to key crop protection tools. The Herbicide Strategy\, finalized in August 2024\, and the recent proposed decision by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to list the Monarch butterfly as a protected species are two examples changes that will affect Illinois growers. \nPlease join Illinois Soybean\, Illinois Corn\, and Illinois Farm Bureau for a grower-focused discussion designed to prepare Illinois farmers for these changes. Subject matter experts from all three organizations\, along with presenters from local Illinois universities\, will guide growers through these changes and discuss their potential impact on farms. Lunch will be provided.

SUMMARY:Cultivating Conversations: Preventing Soil Loss on Your Farm
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to farming\, there is no substitute for experience. This March\, producers and landowners can connect with local Illinois farmers and learn from others’ hands-on knowledge on preventing soil loss in their fields at the Cultivating Conversations panel discussion in Lawrenceville\, Illinois. \nLocal farmers will tell the story of soil loss on their farms and share worthwhile insights gained over years of experience before answering your questions about keeping soil on the field. Network with other producers\, learn how practices work\, and explore cost-share opportunities. This event will also discuss the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy. \nA light breakfast will be provided. \nAcross Illinois\, farmers are working together to reduce nutrient loss from their fields\, which can reduce return on investment\, impact local waterways and drinking water\, decrease property values\, hinder recreational opportunities\, and harm local businesses and tourism. Explore more about preventing nutrient loss in Illinois and the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy. \nPresenters\nRachel Curry\, Illinois Extension Agriculture and Agribusiness Educator\nKatie Bell\, Illinois Extension Local Food Systems and Small Farms Educator \nFarmer Panel\nAdam Buchanan\nJon Buchanan\nTerry Dahmer \n\nWednesday\, March 26\, 9 am-12 pm\n\nLawrence County Extension Office\n10722 Cherry Blvd. Lawrenceville\, IL 62439 \nIf you need a reasonable accommodation to participate\, please contact Amanda at achriste@illinois.edu or enter your request below. SUMMARY:Healing from the Ground Up: Forging A Unified Path Between Agriculture\, Food Systems\, and Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare delivery\, food systems\, and agriculture operate largely in isolation today\, limiting our ability to address chronic disease and create sustainable food systems. Human health depends directly on food quality\, which is determined by agricultural practices and planetary health throughout the food system from production to disposal. Consumers seek comprehensive guidance that goes beyond basic dietary recommendations – they want to understand preventive nutrition while making choices that are economically viable and culturally appropriate. \nThe summit provides opportunities for engagement\, learning\, and development and will: \nBridge critical knowledge gaps: \n\nEnhance healthcare professionals’ knowledge about the food system and agriculture\nBuild a shared understanding of how regenerative practices impact soil health and food quality\nExplore connections between soil health\, nutrient density\, and health outcomes\n\nDrive systems-level change among professional stakeholders:\n \n\nDevelop collaborative frameworks for agriculture\, food systems\, and healthcare\nEstablish networks for continued learning and implementation\nDevelop actionable strategies to implement in individual and collective work within communities
