SUMMARY:Driving the Business of Conservation with Ag Retailers
DESCRIPTION:Ag retailers hold tremendous influence through their role in guiding farmers’ purchasing decisions and providing agronomic advice. Increasingly\, evidence shows a strong business case for ag retailers to promote conservation practices and sustainability as part of their agronomic services. Across the agricultural landscape\, innovative business models and partnerships are emerging to advance these goals. \nTogether\, these initiatives represent a growing movement to align agricultural profitability with environmental stewardship. They reflect a growing recognition of the role that sector can play in addressing natural resource concerns while supporting economic viability for farmers. \nDuring this webinar\, attendees will learn about the different business models being used to engage private-sector agronomists in conservation\, gain insight into the sector’s perspectives on their role in scaling efforts\, and leave with practical ways to collaborate with this influential group in their own areas.

SUMMARY:Cover Crops and Soil Health for Better Crop Fertility Decisions
DESCRIPTION:Cover crops and soil health continue to be key management considerations on many farms. This webinar will feature Dr. Andrew Margenot and Heidi Allen Asensio discussing how cover crops influence nutrient management and soil function. John Pike will also join to provide a field-level perspective. \nThe program will begin with a look at non-cereal rye cover crop options\, including nitrogen-fixing species and what research shows about their role in supplying nitrogen. Presenters will also address how cover crops can affect fertilizer needs\, nutrient availability and soil moisture across tillage systems. The soil health segment will focus on practical soil testing tools\, how organic matter contributes nutrients\, and an overview of biological products and mycorrhizal fungi\, including potential benefits and ways to evaluate them in the field.

SUMMARY:Making Weather-Informed Decisions
DESCRIPTION:Join Midwest Cover Crops Council for a webinar Wednesday December 17 12:30 ET/11:30 CT featuring Austin Pearson\, Midwestern Regional Climate Center Climatologist. \nLearn how to utilize two Midwestern Regional Climate Center (MRCC) resources via live demonstrations to assist in weather-informed agricultural decisions. The Freeze Date Tool helps growers identify the average day their area typically experiences the first fall temperature of 32°F or 28°F\, essential for timing fall cover crop planting and other field activities. Developed in partnership with the USDA Midwest Climate Hub\, this tool provides a detailed climatology of freeze dates across the north-central and northeastern US\, along with insights into decadal trends and growing season length for various temperature thresholds. The Ag Climate Dashboard is a free\, comprehensive web platform funded by the United Soybean Board. It combines climate and agriculture data to assist producers\, advisors\, and researchers throughout the Midwest. The dashboard provides real-time and historical weather information\, local National Weather Service forecasts\, Climate Prediction Center Outlooks\, interactive crop management tools\, and resources for analyzing climate trends and risks relevant to agriculture.
