SUMMARY:Fall Field Day and Potluck at Pasture Grazed Regenerative Farm
DESCRIPTION:Pack your camp chair and join Illinois Women in Conservation for a grazing-focused Potluck Field Day! \nThe field day will take place at a Pasture Grazed Regenerative Farm\, where host Rosalie Trump farms alongside her dad and brother. Join ILWiC and learn how this family farm has made the transition to regenerative agriculture\, and hear how the journey has impacted their farm legacy and community. As is tradition at Women in Conservation events\, the day will begin in a Learning Circle\, giving everyone a chance to introduce themselves\, connect\, and share their experiences\, questions\, and conservation goals. \nThen the group will head out onto the land with Rosalie to see regenerative agriculture in action. During the field tour\, you’ll explore adaptive grazing\, virtual fencing\, grazing cropland\, and integrating cover crops while hearing about the family’s experiences putting these practices to work on their farm. Along the way\, Rosalie will share what she has learned and the role these changes have played in the farm’s evolution. Today\, Pasture Grazed produces regeneratively raised meat and sustainably grown grains while also welcoming people onto the land through educational farm tours and events.

SUMMARY:Putting Data to Work: What Cover Crop Carbon Really Costs - and Pays
DESCRIPTION:New University of Illinois research using PCM field data puts a real number on cover crops and carbon. Are current incentive payments hitting the mark? \nJoin Dr. Laura Gentry and Saurav Raj Kunwar\, PhD as they break down the costs and value of cover crops\, what it means for evaluating cost-share and carbon program payments\, and why a bigger PCM dataset makes the case stronger for every enrolled farmer. They’ll also cover how your data stays protected throughout studies like this thanks to PCM’s secure\, anonymized data system.

SUMMARY:Herding Conservation Together: How to Help Farmers Get Started with Regenerative Grazing
DESCRIPTION:Interest in regenerative grazing is growing. Putting animals on the land is key to soil health\, and livestock prices make it an attractive time for farmers to give it a try. There are many environmental and economic reasons for a farmer to integrate livestock into their operation. \nHow can conservation professionals support farmers in making the leap and being successful? \nClare Lindahl\, CEO of the Soil and Water Conservation Society\, will sit down with SWCS Member and Emerging Leader Alum Tom Shea of the National Grazing Coalition (NatGLC) to talk about how we\, as farmer advisors\, can help a farmer have success with livestock integration. \nTom will share how farmers are getting started\, which practices help bust the age-old myth that livestock keeps you tied to the farm\, and the top questions that come up as producers implement grazing systems. He’ll also draw on his coast-to-coast experience working with farmers to strengthen the bridge between conservation and livestock production. \nTom will also share tips from the successful NatGLC Working Effectively with Livestock Producers Training Program\, which he leads to equip technical service providers with both the communication and grazing-specific skills they need to effectively support America’s farmers and ranchers\, and how you can bring this training to your area professionals.

SUMMARY:Feeding the Soil: Cover crops\, crop rotations and more!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar with Dr. Marshall McDaniel\, a soil scientist whose work explores how agricultural management practices shape soil health. Dr. McDaniel will share insights from his research on crop rotations and cover crops\, including how these practices influence soil carbon\, soil nitrogen\, and microbial biomass. He will also touch on his work with perennial groundcovers in corn and corn/soybean systems\, discussing their potential as a long-term cover crop strategy and what it takes to manage them effectively. \nParticipants will leave with a clearer understanding of how cover crops and diversified rotations build soil health\, the latest research on perennial groundcover systems\, and considerations for applying these practices on their own operations. Bring your questions and join us for a data-driven look at the belowground benefits of sustainable agriculture. \nThis webinar is offered through Farmers for Soil Health\, an initiative designed to increase cover crop adoption by providing technical assistance\, financial incentives\, and educational resources. Whether you are new to cover crops or looking to refine your approach\, these sessions will provide practical insights that can be applied in the field.

SUMMARY:Fitting Pieces Together: Creative Crop Rotations To Complete the Puzzle
DESCRIPTION:Paul Hoffman returned to his family farm near Earlville\, Illinois\, to take over the row crop operation in 2014 after exploring a career teaching math. Since then\, he has gradually diversified the farm’s rotations to include organic corn\, soybeans\, wheat\, sunflowers\, canola\, oats\, buckwheat\, rye\, red clover and forages. The forages in his rotations feed the herd of Dutch Belted and Milking Shorthorn cattle\, which his mother\, Winifred\, maintains. Paul’s wife\, Trisha\, and their kids also help raise 100% grass-fed lambs. \nPaul uses his math skills to piece together a crop rotation puzzle that reduces weed pressure\, breaks pest and disease cycles and meets the farms economic needs. Attend his field day to learn how sunflowers\, red clover\, winter squash\, livestock and more are each finding their place on the Hoffman farm.

SUMMARY:Using Drones to Interseed Cover Crops This Fall
DESCRIPTION:You know that using cover crops will improve your soil’s health\, prevent erosion\, and enhance nutrient cycling on your land\, but the challenges seem overwhelming. \nNew technology may provide the answers to the challenges of timing\, weather\, and field conditions that have kept you from fully embracing cover crops. \nGrow & Graze returns Thursday\, Aug. 27 with a special webinar on using drones to seed cover crops. Panelists include the owners of L&R Ag from Breese. \nDrones allow producers to interseed cover crops in early fall prior to harvest which allows them to get established. Using a drone instead of heavy equipment eliminates soil compaction and works on all types of field conditions (we mean mud!)\, including those hard-to-reach areas. Learn how the regenerative ag community is incorporating drone technology.
